One spray bottle of simple green, a heated pressure washer, and go to town Wet and then spray the bay with simple green (avoid alternator and ignition components, also the computer). Let sit for a few minutes, and then take the pressure washer and blast it. It will look brand new if you did a good job!

I second the simple green, or better degreaser. Make sure the engine is cold when you spray it on so that it doesn't bake on. If you're worried about spraying water on the engine, after you spray the degreaser and let it sit, start the engine and let it run while you hose it off. Leave it run until it dries.
