What is the best Polymer out there besides Zaino?
I am looking to spend no more than 15.00 for a good polymer. I would prefer just to pick it up at an auto. store. What do you think? I was thinking of Meguair's #20. Any good? Again I want something cheap but decent.
Hey davey,
The only local polymer products I'd use on a decent car would be Liquid Glass ($17) or Meguiar's #20. There are a few more cheapies actually like NuFinish, Formula 2001, etc...but no way would I use them on my paint. My vote goes to Liquid Glass. Bright shine, but duraility is average, better than a true wax, but worse than Zaino, Klasse... LG will not layer as it contains micro cleaners/abrasives, but they are very fine, nothing to worry about really. LG is also silicone based FWIW, but I'd take it over Meguiar's. In fact I don't think you can buy a local product that can layer, except for possibly DuraGloss. DG also makes a nonabrasive silicone polymer that might be able to layer, you could email the company and ask if it interests you.
If I may ask, it seems you aren't completely happy with Zaino....? Nothing wrong with experimenting with other decent products, but just wondering if Zaino isn't working out for you or something.

Mike,
I just don't have the money to spend on Zaino right now. I was just thinking of something I could pick up cheap and put on the weekend. The Zaino I have left is about 3 1/2 years old and I'm not so sure how well it would work now.
I do have Klasse left over, but I don't know if I want to try it again. I wasn't that happy with it.

Fair enough I suppose. As long as you don't mind waxing more often, you can get some fairly good (shining) waxes around the $10 price range, unless you want to strictly stay with a polymer type formula. For local polymers, I'd still pick Liquid Glass as my fav, but for other good but cheaper waxes, you might try Meguiar's Medallion, #26, Gold Class, Mother's Pure Carnauba or Reflections Polish(polymer based), or Eagle 1 WET. Persoanlly I'd pick Medallion, Reflections, or Gold Class. As you probably know, none of these offer outstanding durability, so wax often to restore gloss. Or, for another nice option use a base coat of polymer, like LG, #20, or Reflections, and use a top coat of pure carnauba without cleaners. This will extend durability some, and should give you a nice gloss too.
Just trying to give you more options for local products....

Meguiar's #20 is good, it just wouldn't be my first choice is all. It's probably their most durable product in the Meguiar's stable, but IMO it still has its flaws. Like Liquid Glass, the #20 contains mild polishing agents (cleaners) which would remove each previous coat you applied. #20, LG, and Klase AIO are pretty similar actually in terms of final results, but each varies by the amount of polishing/cleaning action in the formula. #20 also contains the standard supply of oils, silicones, other waxes and so forth, which is probably why the durability isn't as great as the true polymer-only formulas. Even so, it's certainly more durable than any of their carnauba waxes, by a decent margin. Here's a good idea....if you want to try #20, use it as the base coat and #26 or the consumer version carnauba (red bottle) wax as a final coat. That would probably provide plenty of durability for a couple months or longer, depending on weather etc.

Thanks again. Well, I decided to just throw another coat of the Klasse Glaze on for now since I have so much left. It's drying now. Maybe I will be more impressed with it this time.
I think I might give that #20 a try. If I do so, I have to remove all of the Klasse off my car, don't I?

The mild cleaners in #20 would remove the Klasse, or anything else, once you applied it. I'd just apply the #20 over the Klasse to strip it off...if you want to try the Meguiar's. I think Klasse SG has a nice shine, but it darkens the paint color and hides the metallic flake, something I really didn't want in my case. Since you already have it, give the Klasse a few more tries, as it layers, and see if it suits you. If not, move on until you find what you like.
Well, Mike, I applied the Klasse Gloss on Sunday. While my car shines, I am just not that impressed - even still! This is the second coat I have on my car of it. (I previously used two coats of the stuff which helps removes swirls - name escapes me).
Yeah, that's kinda how I feel about the Klasse Sealant Glaze. It's got good durability and everything, but it's particular shine just isn't what I'm after. It looks rather wet and deep, but also dark, kinda like the looks of a high oil/silicone carnauba wax. Nothiong wrong with that as plenty of folks like this kind of shine for different paint types and colors. But, in the end, it just didn't do it for me. If Zaino weren't around though, it would likely be my next choice. So, like I said, if it doesn't completely suit you either, put it on the shelf for now and keep looking for your perfect level of protection and shine. I can stretch 1 bottle of Zaino quite far so it lasts quite a while and becomes pretty cost effective for me. You can save a lot in shipping if you place one or two larger orders per year instead of several small ones. As concentrated as the products are though, they last me quite a while.
If you aren't quite happy with the Klasse, I honestly don't think you'd like Meguiar's #20 much better, if at all. Never hurts to try though, because you never know...
