Cool Weekend Detailing Check-In!

Well, I know there has been some Zainoing going on this weekend , but, let's hear what you've done this weekend to your car or others' cars!

Here's what I did: Zaino Z1+Z2 with the Porter Cable buffer and Z6, Lifter1 Shampoo for interior carpeting, Meguiar's and 303 for dash and interior plastics, DuraGloss glass cleaner inside and out for the glass surfaces, and other odds and ends.

Here's my results:

Sorry about the lighting, it overexposed the camera, but I was trying to capture the depth of Zaino, which some people criticize as lacking. IMO that's BS!

A nice hood shot showing the optical clarity, depth, and reflectiveness!

And the best for last,

I just love this shot, nuff said!

So, let's see or hear what you've done!

Mike

Good job with the Zaino, you definitely have the hang of it!

1st time Zaino user here, just came in the mail yesterday... former 14yr Meguires user...

First impressions, all of the products smell awesome. I found myself opening all of the bottles just to see what they smelled like

I spent the first 4 hours of the day Dawing, claying, and then ZWashing.

I then mixed up about 1.25oz of Z5 and ZFX and managed to apply 3 coats w/ the Z6ing in between coats. I currently have the 3rd coat still on the car as the humidity picked up this afternoon and I wanted to let it sit over night. Tomorrow morning first thing I am going to buff it off, Z6, and mix up the Z2 to put on a few coats. Any recommendation how many coats I should put on for the 1st time? Then after that I have to finish up detailing all of my black parts, tires, and engine compartment. What a weekend

Really what's the difference between Z5 and Z2? They can be used in either order, they both are activated with ZFX, one's a swirl remover the other a polish, but isn't that the same really? One thing that is difficult is that people post that they are ZFXing, but don't say what Zaino number they are using for best results, it sucks being a newbie to this.

Friday - wash, Z6, Z1 & Z5 on. Cleaned interior, tires, front wheel wells, under hood and then got lazy & decided it was beer & bbq time so I put the car in the garage & called it a day.

Saturday - remove the Z1/Z5, Z6'd, clean the windows and went out cruising.

Today - going to hit the car with the CCD and Z6 then throw another coat of Z5 on. Will probably Z2 the rims too and work on polishing the A/C condenser a little more.

Mike, I notice your still using Z1. Me, I've found that it seems to make the paint a little deeper and richer than using ZFX as a bonding agent.

Was wondering if your seeing the same results?

Well certainly good to hear there are a few doing some detailing work this weekend! I'm almost certain it will rain now that the car is detailied again. I usually get to enjoy the work for only one or two days around here.

jimmyS,

Yeah, I'm still using Z1 as needed along with ZFX. I agree that Z1 really renews a deepness and slickness to the paint. The best way I can describe the benefits of Z1 is that it's like Z6 in polish form. Like Z6, the Z1 leaves a very slick, very wet and glossy finish. For these reasons, I can't give up using Z1 alltogther. I still use ZFX though when doing multiple coats and when I want the polish to dry and cure quickly. IMHO, I think using Z1 when needed and ZFX in between is the ultimate in Zaino shine, depth, and slickness. Of course this is completely unnecessary with ZFX, as you really don't need Z1, but I like it and will continue to use it.

Mike

It's been a L-O-N-G weekend, guys. Friday I worked on my own SS, re-clayed some gunk on it from the week's driving, washed with Z7 and dried it, Z6'd it, then as I had previously put on a coat of Z1/Z5 (Thursday), I started in on the ZFX/Z2 combo, putting on three coats with an application of Z6 before, between each coat and after I was done. Used Eagle One 20/20 Auto Glass Cleaner to spiff up all the windows, then applied ZFX/Z2 to all windows and T-Tops. Used small Calif. Duster to clean out interior in preparation for Z9 and Z10.

Saturday, used clay bar on hubby's 'Vette, washed with Z7, dried it and applied one coat of Z1/Z2 combo. Didn't have to use Z5 as the stinker has NO swirl marks, makes me mad. His paint is perfect, mine is getting there. . . I wish the guy who painted his car had done mine, guy who painted mine must have been on hallucinogens. . . man, the things you don't notice until that car is yours. . .!

Sunday, re-clayed a couple parts on the 'Vette that picked up bugs, etc., yesterday while cruising, Z6'd it, applied three coats of ZFX/Z2 with Z6 every time, applied the mix to the wheels and cleaned windows and dusted interior.

We now have two beautiful Zaino'd cars that we could show anywhere but heck, it's 4p and I feel like I want to go to bed, I'm so tired and stiff. Not used to this manual labor anymore. I know, I know, I'm a wuss!

HOWEVER, I am going to revive myself somehow and Z6 my SS just for good measure before I take it out tonight and cruise with the tops off. Where's that NoDoz???

IT WAS FUN, THOUGH! And will be more fun tonight when it glows in the dark

2001 Black WS6 -- two days worth of detailing.

Wash, clay , wash, dry, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6.

Jack car, remove wheels, clean and polish wheels front and back. Semi-gloss tire-wet on the tires. Z2 rims.

Clean glass inside and out

Clean and condition leather interior

Suck all the crap out of the carpet

It's 10:00 Sunday night ... I just got finished. I didn't drive my car at all this weekend other than to back it out of the garage to wash it. I pulled back into the garage for all the detailing. My wife thinks I'm nuts and my neighbor said my car was "bling bling"

Anyone else?

To my eyes, in addition to providing a higher gloss, Z2 makes the edges of the body contours look a little sharper and more well defined.

Straight Z2 is too bright for my tastes so I'm using Z5 and am going to try mixing a little Z2 in to see if I can get the edges just a little bit crisper looking.

Sweet! I'll have to keep a sharp eye out for a blinding black WS6 on the roads! When I started checking out new cars the WS6 was at the top of my list, especially after driving one. And, I've always had a love for the WS6 styling. But, unfortunately, I think I need something with 4 doors and a little more "professional" looking, considering my career into the mix. Something like the G35!
