Wax your wheels!

Well, I did this before winter set in here in Cinci on both my Z28 and RS. Given that the Z28 is stored, it really doesn't matter right now. But I am thoroughly impressed with the wax on my RS. Normally, I can't usually find a good day to wash for atleast a couple months into the winter. We'll get that oddball high 40s day and I'll wash it then. Let me tell you, last winter I had trouble with grime getting stuck to the wheels and I think I STILL have some marks that are there from last winter (hopefully claying will help later).
Anyways, I waxed them this year and let me tell you, this works. Everything came off as easy as can be, even with a couple months of salt, road grime, brake dust, etc. caked on them.
Overall, I'm very happy with this and would reccommend it. I only put one coat of GC paste on it but may go with 2 coats next year just to be safe.

Keeps them cleaner and they clean with just water and light whiping when waxed.

Synthetic waxes hold up real good to the heat and dirt on your wheels.

Re: Wax your wheels!

When I replaced my painted ZR1's with chrome ZR1's, before having them mounted, I applied 3 coats of Zaino to each wheel. Since they've been on the car, they genrally receive several coats over the summer.

I have yet to have anything "stick" to them. I'm able to "hit" them with water, and the brake dust, etc., pretty much rinse away.

I feel its a must on polished wheels. It offers excellent protection from oxidation.

Re: Wax your wheels!

I read once a article that said NOT to wax polished (un clearcoated) wheels because alot of car waxes have small amounts of acid in them that can damage the polished wheels... Speaking of which (and I dont mean to hijack this thread at all), its -20 C out here, has anyone tried to polish wheels at this tempurature?

Waxing your wheels is one of the best things to do..... year round! Nothing works better for making it easier to get that nasty brake dust off the wheels!

-20...Celcius? I'd be surprised if the compounds even kept their structure at that low of a temp.

Re: Wax your wheels!

Waxing wheels does make them 100x easier to clean.

Don't bother doing 2 coats of Gold Class. It's a cleaner wax and each coat will remove the previous one.

Re: Wax your wheels!

I have the painted 5 spoke wheels (their off for the winter) I compounded them and waxed them with Mothers carnuba cleaner wax and one coat they came out great!

My front brake pads are awful, always marking up the wheels, I plan to apply another coat or two before I mount them, is the Mothers carnuba going to wear off quickly? or should I buy another product?

Also, what procedure/chemicals should I use, I normally just use Purple power or Simple green to clean the tires and the same sponge I wash the tires with.... But I know that isnt a good practice now that the wheels are waxed. Help me out!

I tried that today, waxing the glass, I first compounded and it took off the oxydation from acid rain and stuff and water spots on the T tops. I'll find out tomorrow how it works, It's going to monsoon!
