Use a claybar or use a clearcoat paint cleaner. It is often the #1 step of a 3 step polishing system, and/or it is sometimes referred to as a buffing polish (as in pro-buff by Gliptone).

Just wipe the paint with denatured alcohol on any part of the paint that you want to remove the wax from.

I would clay first as you will leave clay lube residue on the paint that will need to be cleaned off with the alcohol.

BTW, normal rubbing alcohol is either 30 or 50 water, I much prefer denatured alcohol which is 95% alcohol, does a much nicer job than rubbing.... You can get denatured at Lowes for about 3 bucks, I use it to clean all sorts of surfaces such as before painting something.....

Put some on your car cloth and wipe in one pass in one direction, denatured alcohol will evaporate instantly, your done...

Does that denatured (can't spell) work on the plastic on our cars? I tried rubbing alcohol on it but it still turns white after a while.. I'd like to get all the wax off of the plastic (came from when i buffed it with a buffer a long time ago) and then get the black shining again with armor all or something similar.

Use Griot's Garage paint prep. I tried this wekeend for the first time and it dissolved the old wax with no problems or damage. It is made for this purpose to prep your paint before applying new wax or doing body work. You can see the wax on the rag when you wipe after letting it sit for a few minutes.
