Water Spot Question!!

What is the best way to get rid of water spots that have been on the car for a long time? I can get water spots out of the car that have been there for a week or so by either waxing or using rubbing compound, but there are ones that seem to be etched into the paint and wont come out. The car isn't that old for the paint to be ruined by water spots right? If anyone knows how to to take care of these let me know. I have thought about using a clay bar to see if it works but I didn't want to waste my money.
Thanks for your help with my question.

I use a polishing compound with an orbital buffer, then wax it. Saves the arms too.

Lightbulb

It really depends on the severity of the water spot and/or etching. A claybar might do the trick for light spots, as will vinegar. I've always had good success in the past using Meguiar's Body Scrub for spots, but I have not had to use it in a few years now since going to Zaino. If Body Scrub won't remove the spot or etching, you'll need a heavier abrasive. Something like Meguiar's Fine Cut or Medium Cut Cleaner should easily do the trick.

Whatever you decide, start from the least abrasive methods/products and work up until the results satisfy you.

If clay or vinegar does not work I use 3M Scratch and Swirl Remover #39009

Use the California Waterblade to get the water off after you wash it or if it has been rained on. Spot free

Ditto! I like the CaliBlade too, but no way would I use it unless the car is squeaky clean, like after washing. There's just too much dirt and whatnot on the surface after rain. I'd be very afraid of scratching unless the car is totally clean.

I have a variation of the Cali waterblade. I really like it. It saves at least 1 towel for drying purposes.
