Using Clay Bar, any tips?

For those who have used Clay Bar on their cars, is there anything I should be aware of before I do this? Its my first time doing this so any advice you have would be great. Thanks guys. If it works well on my mustang I will definately be using it on my Camaro when I buy it.

just make sure the surface is wet before you use it
if it leaves streak, just wet it down again and go back over it with the clay

^Correct...make sure the surface you are claying is wet with clay lubricant or detail spray. Rub back and forth/up and down until the surface is smooth, then buff dry with a microfiber towel.

Always make sure the surface you are claying is CLEAN first. In other words, wash your car first. I like to clay right after Im done washing, while rinsing...heres another "how to" link for you.....

i've used water before but I usually use instant detailer spray. If you drop it they say to just throw it away but as long as you make sure you get any dirt out before you go folding it over it should be fine. Last time I slipped off the fender and hit the back of the front tire which was covered in sand so i had to throw that bar away. When I went back with a new bar I put a sheet of plastic on the ground where i was working so if i dropped it i wouldn't have to throw it away and i also put a sheet over the wheels so i didn't have a repeat.

i agree
i dropped mine once but just get the most of it off and fold it over, it'll be fine
and a good idea ^^^ to, i didn't think to do that
just told myself "you will NOT drop it again"

The bars are usually good for several applications right? I remember the ones I used were like 4 months old and they were nasty lookin but they got the job done

Clay is reusable, no matter what brand name of clay bar you are using, you can make your own clay lube with a cap full of car wash in 20 ounces of water, you do not have to waste your detail spray for clay lube.

And always clay on a surface out of the sun and lay down a towel under your work area so if you drop it it will not pick up any debris.
