under carraige rust, what to do?

I dont have alot, but i just intended on keeping this car indefinately, no rust through (obviously), just normal surface, accept one place that it took off a layer maybe a Milimeter deep, im just wondering if this is normal wear (which im sure it is @ 10 years old), and what the easiest course of "preservation" action i have available.

thanks in advance.

only "preservation" is to not drive it in any incliment weather... ie rain, snow... etc.

I dont think it is possible to avoid it, especially on a 10 year old car. Mine is 12 and it has undercarriage rust, every car will get it I imagine.

its not a big deal... i mean, even if you let it sit... moisture will cause it to happen eventually anyway... if it rusts through, then you have a problem, but i doubt that would happen...

The easiest way to inhibit rust is to prevent oxygen from combining with iron, that is the reason the chassis of your car was painted from the factory. Any porosity in that paint will permit the oxidation.

A wire brush and spot blaster can remove loose rust and prepare the steel to receive new paint to once again seal the iron from the oxygen. There are several good paints that seal better than anything the factory puts on the car. POR15, Chassis Saver and Rust Bullet are just 3 special coatings that require a minimum of surface preparation and provide a very strong and thorough bond to metal. So strong that it is difficult to create a new condition where oxygen can find a path to the metal beneath. The problem still exists where you cannot see the surface where rust is forming such as the inside of panels and supports. It's always just a matter of time.
