Sonus SFX-2 Swirl Remover

http://autopia-carcare.com/son-420.html

Just ordered a Porter Cable 7424, Sonus pads, and SFX-2 Swirl Remover. Anyone have any comments about the SFX-2? Anyone use it? I'm pretty excited to get the PC 7424 and put 'er to good use.

Yes, but I would also suggest that you pick up sfx-3, as it compliments sfx-2 very well. Sonus makes excellent car care products. I think you will like the results, as the sfx system is very active, and will leave you with a crystal clear finish before your wax or lsp.

Start slow with your pc, and build up to a #5 or #6 speed (if you are daring). Good luck.

Re: Sonus SFX-2 Swirl Remover

I worked on my dad's 1987 944 Porsche today. We don't know what happened to the car, exactly... it happened while the previous owner had it. There's thousands of fine scratches and swirl marks all over the sides of the car... mostly on the bottom half. It's kinda weird, you'd think the wear would be on the top half. I think the previous owner would wipe his car "clean" with a rag without actually hosing the dirt off... and then all the dirt just scratched it to ****. With that said, here are the pics:

Went to take a picture of the driver side when I finished it:

Then realized "Duh, I need before pics..." so here's the passenger side:

Sonus doesn't make anything. David said so himself.

Oops! Very good recovery! What was your lsp? As good as your result was, I think that if you didn't use the sfx-3, that your results could possibly have been even better with sfx-3.

Judging from the poor state of condition that it was in, however, your efforts were great.

Happy (waxing) Detailing!

Amateur to the detailing process, what's LSP stand for? Here's what I did:

1. Wash
2. Sonus SFX-2 with PC 7242 @ speed #4
3. Klasse All-In-One with speed #4
4. Klasse Sealant Glaze, speed #5
5. Meguiar's Gold Class, speed #6.

I have the SFX 1 and SFX 3, as well as some P21S on its way.

Last Step Product, like a pure wax or a sealant. If you are getting p21s, skip the Gold Class IMO. The P21s will beat the crapola out of the gold class. You could possibly use it as a go between, but gold class is somewhat costly (for its limited ability), so I figure that if its unopened, you could return it.

I don't really favor putting a pure carnauba on top of a mix of a sealant and a cleaner-wax or another wax product, because you may not get the full benefit of its depth of shine IMO. I would recommend that if you insist on keeping the Klasse AIO, then follow immediately with the p21s. P21S is good enough that you won't need a sealant underneath it, but if you think that it will help, then that is what I would do if it were me.

SFX-1 is for moderate to heavy cutting. I wouldn't use that if your paint is in good shape. If it needs some work, then you should plan to start with that on your next attempt (give yourself time for that, about 6-8 months or even a year if you think the paint needs more work. The SFX-2 should have been more than enough).

Re: Sonus SFX-2 Swirl Remover

Yeah, the SFX-1 is for my dad's Porsche. I'm really nervous about using it because from what I've heard, in 1987 the Porsche factories were cheap on paint, so they used REALLY thin coats.

I'll definitely try out your suggestions -- detailing a car seems to be a never ending learning process, which is fine with me. The Klasse AIO and P21S should be sufficient, considering I wax so often.

Try it then with a medium polishing pad if the paint is in bad shape. IMO the sfx 2 with some liberal work should correct many paint issues. Follow it with the sfx 3 for additional gloss and depth.
