Something Oozing out of Paint on Roof.

I have a 2000 Z-28 with T-tops. The section behind the T-tops is painted black. After I clean it up and it sits out in the sun, something seems to ooze out of the paint on the sides. It seems like maybe glue??? The paint still looks as good as new (car only has 15,000 miles and has been garaged.) It cleans off, but sometimes it seems like maybe there are some bubbles under the paint. This only occurs on the black section behind the windows.

Anybody ever experienced this? Again, this is original paint with no damage to the car.

It's most likely the adhesive used to hold those body panels on.

What is the solution to fix this?... Will it need to be repainted eventually?

I get that same stuff near the bottom of the hatch on both sides.

Back when they were under warranty, GM would fix this- it was the adhesive they used to hold the plastic roof panels on- It only happened when you left them parked in the hot sun- keep them garaged or covered, and it wouldn't happen- Even a re-paint may not help, unless you can seal it some how- it will continue to come through the plastic-

I don't know if there's a simple solution other than having those panels replaced. I think there might have been a TSB out regarding it at some point IIRC.

yeah there was a TSB on it. I just had my ss completly repainted back in March of this year. And the body shop couldnt get it not to bubble around that area. The only way to fix this is to replace the pannel with a new one and remove all of the old adhesive and use the one recomended in the TSB. Follow the link to the TSB below.

Thanks for the information. The Chevy dealership should have looked up that service bulletin a few years ago when I asked them about it.

Glad I could help. there was alot of people on ls1tech that actually had this covered under wantery, but there cars have low miliage. I tried calling GM headquaters directly and they pretty much told me to get lost. Oh well you cant win them all.

The service manager told me a few years ago that they would take care of it for free, but I was not in a hurry to let them paint on my vehicle. I only have 15,000 miles on it now.
