rusting camaros...
rusting camaros...
in the 96 range, where would the weathered spots show up first, as far as rust is concerned? I am thinking of buying a camaro from the NY area and it got me thinking. If something is gonna start rusting and causing problems, where would that be? I would think QP first, but, I dont know. Should I look in the rails in the front? Fastners in the front? If I could only get a pic or two from the guy, where should I ask him to take it for a sure tell tale sign of salt abuse? I would hate to buy a NY camaro and have the fenders rusting out in no time after a 3k paint job.
Re: rusting camaros...
Of course the front fenders won't rust but the places my 95 are having a problem are:
#1 floor pan .. If the car has leaked the floor pan will be rusted.
#2 inside the control arm mount against the floor pan
#3 the lowest area on the rear fender at the rear of the rocker panel and the inner fender just in front of the rear tire.
#4 the headlight buckets
#5 the bottom of the radiator core support
#6 the entire area around the gas tank. I had rust holes through the inner fender under the interior panels beside the rear seats
There can be more but of all things that tell you the condition, check the floor pan just behind the driver and font passenger seats.

Re: rusting camaros...
sounds good, thanks. Oh, if ya dont mind, what area are you in and what was your driving habits like? Was this a daily driver? You can PM me if you would rather, thanks again.
Re: rusting camaros...
The car appeared to be a daily driver and saw 8 Northeastern Ohio winters before I rescued it.
I forgot to add one more area which really surprised me when I re-did the floor.
#7 the floor where the gas lines bend upward against the firewall. There is a long slender plastic cover over the gas and evap lines right beside the front subframe terminal. It snaps in place and is easily pulled down. This held moisture and completely took out the small triangular area of the floor between the structural support in that area.
