Restoring finish after wet sanding

Restoring finish after wet sanding
I have a 93 Z28 that was in a body shop before I purchaced it. The car looks to have been wet sanded by 1500 grit. The body shop said it would buff out. I just wonder what I need to do to get the finish back. Should I re-sand with 2000 or 2500 grit then buff , of just try to buff now with the 1500 grit scratches. The car is black and looks awesome when its wet, so the clear coat seems ok. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would go over it with 2000, and use 1Z Ultra Paint Polish or 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound. Doing it by hand will do nothing, you at least need a Porter Cable 7424 with an orange cutting pad. Available from www.autopia-carcare.com

The last time I wet-sanded and buffed a car was a black Corvette I bought used that had a lot of acid rain etching. I did the same as described above, 2000 grit and the 3M products. Also, pick up some of the 3M perfect-it swirl mark remover for dark colors. Pick yourself up a couple of wools bonnets too for the compounding. Be sure and tape the edges on the car, it's easy to go through the clear.
The porter cable would be ideal, but when I did my car, all I had was a run of the mill $30 10 inch (or 9 inch?) orbital. It got the job done with wool, terry, and foam bonnets. Probably took longer, but the results were still good.
