Rattle Canned Paint Job

Can you guess what was rattle canned? ( For those that know from other forums, shhh ) I haven't buffed it out at all yet, only primed, color coat, and clear coat with wet sanding inbetween every layer of primer and color coat.

Yep.

Still gotta buff it out and polish and wax and everything, but so far I think it looks pretty damn good for a rattle can job.

Re: Rattle Canned Paint Job

Thanks.

Been waiting for the dang humidity to go down here in MI, it's been thunderstorming EVERY DAY this week thus far, but tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous -- so then I can finally buff it out as much as possible. I know it's not going to look 100%, but I plan to have it painted professionally when I get my new hood, new spoiler, and GFX package painted (which should be REALLY soon, just been waiting for the hood to arrive and it arrived today)

It doesn't look like it matches very well, what type of spray paint are you using?

Well see that's the problem, it's whatever the color is that Duplicolor says matches (I don't remember the color off hand, it was a month ago since i used it), I think if I could've gotten the clear coat to flow well then I could've gotten it to blend better.

Re: Rattle Canned Paint Job

Matching paint sucks. I ordered Sebring Silver touchup paint (code 13U) and put it on my Z28 and it doesn't match at all. I need a lighter version that accounts for a couple years of sun damage. I can only imagine how bad it would match if the car hadn't been garaged about 7 of the 10 years

But anyway, I only said that previous message to make sure it just wasn't the picture quality or something.

Haha yeah nah, it was in the shade so that just made it worse because the shadow makes it all darker and then it's REALLY apparent. In the sun it really doesn't look all that noticeable...

Can't really tell in those pics.

Re: Rattle Canned Paint Job

Yeah, it doesn't look too shabby in those pics. I'm embarassed, but I actually have black acrylic paint covering the wind damage on my side mirrors of the '95 , so I'm no better than you lol. I put some brush on model paint Testors semi-gloss over it and you can only barely see it (mainly because of the brush strokes). Maybe you should get some spray on gloss and put it over the red on your car? I have some I have used on things as a hobby, and it works pretty good so long as you don't spray it too close to the object. It has a clear spray can lid and says GLOSS on it. You should be able to pick some up at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for about $3 to $4.

Re: Rattle Canned Paint Job

Well, I figured for the car i should be using automotive clear coat, i just couldn't get it to look as good as the car. In any case, though, I'm going to get it painted very shortly because I have a new hood on it that's only gelcoated, so I'm tired of driving around with a black hood lol.
