Question about the claybar system. Will it help oxidation?

i have oxidation now on my front bumper area (see pic below) and its driving me nuts.. hate looking at it...

im eventually getting it re-painted... probably with my tax return but trying to make it look better for now...

would a claybar system like from Zaino work for something like this? or does anyone happen to know of anything else that could just help it? i know it wont be perfect, but im looking for even slightly better. Thanks

JOe

I personally haven't had much experience with oxidation, but I think this ( http://www.autogeek.net/klasseallinone.html ) would be your best bet, or so I have heard. You might want to try to post on Autopia.org, they will know a lot more, trust me.

Ive never used a claybar but from what i understand claybars are for cleaning the paint. Im sure you could try it because it probably wont hurt. You might want to try some Nu Finish car polish. You can get it at most local car places or wal-mart i know has some. Its in an orange bottle.

I think you'd need a good polishing compound? The clay bar is for removal of surface contaminants.

If it were my car, I'd try some good compounds, (ie; 3M), see how that goes, and if it does not help, a visit to a good body shop may be required?

I doubt a clay bar would help as it just removes dirt and grime from the paint. If a good polish compound fails how about a bra until you could get repainted.

HAHAHA! a bra wouldnt be a bad idea....

it would be nice to have a bra for those long road trips especially after i get it painted...

as for the claybar... didnt work, lol.... with a little wetsanding, and then some polishing compound it has gotten better... still not great but not nearly as WHITE looking...

i think im gonna look for a bra for it... could use it in the future too..

The bra will just ruin it further if not taken care of. They're good for road trips, etc. but I wouldn't use one (but you can keep it good looking, just requires removing the bra and cleaning under there a lot.)
I reccommend 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound. I used it on my 92 and it worked great (and it was heavily oxidized). I would reccommend following it up with their swirl mark remover, a polish, and a wax.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

That damage is way past a clay bar or polishing compound helping, you have severe clear coat failure, only a re-paint will help that. Putting a polishing compound or rubbing compound on it will be a waste of time and money.

heavy compound with a rotary buffer wouldnt even fix that, your clear coat is shot dude. the only way you are going to fix that is by starting from scratch.
