Prevent Chrome Rims from rusting/pitting. How?
I've noticed one tiny tiny _tiny_ little pit on a obscure part of my chrome rim. Is there anything I can do to keep getting mroe of these? how do I protect my rims from rust?
The rims in question are the factory chrome rims that came with my 2001 Camaro when I bought it new. I have never used any chrome polish on them because I'm not sure if they have a clear coat on them. does anyone know?
Thanks

I've owned a lot of older cars that had a lot of chrome. When exposed to moisture, even the best chrome has a tendency to pit and left unattended, the pits get worse. Here's my treatment:I use a soft cloth and BonAmi to get the rust off. That leaves the tiny pits. Then wax with carnuba floor wax-when you take the wax off use a soft cloth with a little Windex on it. The wax will seal the hole and it won't rust anymore, at least until the wax wears off. I have a restored 1968 VW bug which would have holes as big as dimes by now if it hadn't gotten this treatment regularly.
Use of bon-ami or other chemicals such as brasso will crean chrome up nicely. After a good cleaning a spray of some high quality window cleaner like windex will shine it up nicely. to protect the just cleaned chrome use some carnuba wax like mothers california gold on top. I use it on my rims now and i Used to use it on all the chrome on my 88' caprice .
My Chrome wheel has bunch of rust holes in it.. (I live in Michigan)
So, I will try that thing with the wax before the rusts get worse.
But, where can I get that Bon-Ami thing? Do they sell em in K-mart, and Walmart and stuff?
