Powerwashing chrome rims

Powerwashing chrome rims

Anyone know if its ok to powerwash chrome rims? I have a set of ZR1's and I wanna try to get some of the brake dust out of the inside.....It wont cause it to flake off will it?

I don't see any problem with it at all... blast away!


Brake dust has a way of sticking, though... might need to take the rims off and hand wash them....


EDIT: FWIW I have had chrome rims in the past, used a power washer, and never had any trouble.

It WILL flake off. The inside coating of Chrome isnt as thick as the outside. And if you live in a climate where the temperature changes from freezing to 100F every 6 months youll get flaking. I got a pic of mine if you want (when I had chrome). Its better to take off the wheel and do it by hand. That always worked for me. Flaking is really unavoidable though, I made sure mine were spotless and I still got flaking in the well area. Good Luck!

Take your wheels off the car once a year, clean with Simple Green, I also clay my chrome wheels once a year.
