polishing engine bay shining metal?

polishing engine bay shining metal?

dont know the first thing to shining metal or dull aluminum. example intake manifold or alternator how do you do it? i know you need sand paper. can some one explain this to me in detail so i can go to the store and buy what i need? wet sand paper? do i need more than one grit? please explain. what do you guys do to get the engine bay looking like new?

I doubt if you can make much of a dent by hand as the metal is too rough and coarse. First off, I would remove the alternator and use air tools if I where to try to polish it, but that is too much work for me, I buy a chrome case kit for 80 bucks and have the case halves swapped out. I painted my LT1 intake with POR 20 silver and covered the top with the chrome top plate from Street and Performance, Street and Performance also hand polished my water pump and throttle body.
