pewter paint?
Re: pewter paint?
Do you have any preference on what brand of paint? I work at NAPA, and we sell Martin Senour. Its good paint. But you would need your paint code, which is nornally is the letters WA followed by four numbers. With that you can go to any NAPA, and they can get it for you even if they dont sell paint out of that store. They can have another store make it up and send it to your store.
Now another question. Do you want to do basecoat/ clearcoat, or a single stage(where the clear is in the color)? Both of them have there advantages and disadvantages.
For Basecoat/ clearcoat:
A pint of color is roughly $22 (this is for chevy white, it will probably be a little more because of the metallics and micas in the pewter)
A quart of reducer(unfortunatly this is the smallest size we offer) is $21
A quart of clear is $35
8oz bottle of hardener for clear is $15
For single stage:
A pint of the color w/clear is roughly $26 (same as above)
A pint of reducer is $21
And the hardener is $60 (different hardener that regular clear)
Plus all the incedentials, like sand paper, masking paper, tape, mixing cups, strainers, etc.
Either way you will have to blend the color into the hood and both fenders, then reclear the whole front of the car. You can do just the bumper, but when you put it back on, there will be a noticeable difference in color. The basecoat/clearcoat will be easy to blend. Ive never blended single stage, but I know that it is very difficult.
The store should throw in the mixing cups and strainers(I do when I sell paint), and they will give you a PDS sheet. Which gives you all the proper mixing ratios, how to spray, flash times, recoat times.

Re: pewter paint?
im just looking for the color the closest to the stock pewter and the napa deal sounds reasonable paint isn't cheap which is why I gave up on a complete color change I plan on sanding all the old paint off that way I have a fresh start im going to try to avoid the single stage then as im not a experienced painter thank you for the useful information
Re: pewter paint?
I wouldnt sand off all the old paint. You just need to go over it with 600 grit to even out the highs and lows. If you do decide to sand it all off, you will need a primer.
I forgot to mention, no matter what paint you decide to go with, you need to make sure it has a flex agent in it. It is a separate additive that allows the paint to flex with the natural movement of the bumper.
