Permaplate?

Anyone heard of this stuff? I hear its right up there with Zaino and just as expensive to. I have a buddy who works at Lexus and he said they charge 750 bucks to put it on, but of course I would get a "good deal".

Zaino is expensive? Most people get 20-30 applications form a $13.00 bottle, at less than a dollar an application I think it's one of the best bargains out there. Our shops used Meguiar's products for years, I could never get 30 applications from a bottle of their products.

I have never seen a "dealer protectant' that was as good as any basic wax or sealant. 99.9% of the time, it's just another dealer add-on for them to make pure profit from those that don't know any better. They take a $20 wax, apply it for $800, and smile all the way to the bank.....

You can buy your own sealant for $20, apply it yorself, and have just as good or probably better protection. Most dealers that I've ever seen don't know jack squat about caring for a car's finish. But, I'll tell ya what, since I'm such a good guy, I'll apply a sealant to your car for the discounted priice of $700. Sound like a good deal? For that price you could buy a lifetime supply of your favorite wax or sealant.....

It's all a bunch of BS dealer marketing......as if they don't make enough from people on the cars anyway.....

Here's a quote from someone that bought a BMW X5 where the dealer tried to scam more money on the PermaPlate stuff....
*** But if you do buy it (or any other vehicle), do yourself a favor and DO NOT let the dealer sell you "Permaplate". It is way overpriced and offers you less protection than a good wax. Furthermore, the dealer will tell you that, with Permaplate, you no longer need to wax your vehicle every 6 months, which implies that you will save a lot of money and hassle over the years. But what the dealer doesn't tell you is that, with Permaplate, you are supposed to reapply something to the car's finish every 6 months, which is just as much hassle as waxing it. When I started to realize that I probably made an expensive mistake getting the Permaplate, I emailed the Permaplate company and asked them what sort of evidence they could provide that their product gives better protection than a good wax. They replied to my email, but provided absolutely no evidence or other information that would indicate their product is superior to a good wax job.

All dealer applied paint sealants are scams, just do a search in www.google.com for "dealer applied paint sealant scams" and you will see what I mean.

The old lady across the street from me was convinced by the dealer to have it applied to her new car. It lasted all of 3 washes before there was NO shine left, water didn't beed, it was simply clear coat left.

It is a scam.

Cool, thanx for the heads up guys.

Quick question about Zaino. Does the swirl mark formula work wonders? My car is black and I have swirl marks GALORE.

If they are that bad I would say no, I would tackle those swirls first with 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 and then fill in the minor swirls left with Zaino Z-5.

The Z-5 will gradually "fill" the swirls, but like KevinSS said if they are really bad it may need to be buffed first.

Make sure you are only using the best supplies such as 100% cotton wash mitts and towels. Most swirls are put in by the owners.
