Paint job estimate?
Paint job estimate?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum section, but I was wondering if maybe you guys could tell me how much this paintjob owuld cost for my car:
Completely sanded down to bare metal on the engine compartment and the doors and then shot with primer.
The whole car (except the part the nobody sees under the interior carpet) including doors, engine compartment, and everything else will be painted a deep balck. I'm not sure on te exact black yet, but it won't be metallic. A few good coats of that.
Some clearcoat to protect the finish. I'll do however many coats is needed to protect well and look good. But I don't want to go completely overboard.
That it! The car is an '86 Camaro. I would be removing the engine/tranny my self, all the exterior parts will also be removed by me (trim, lights, etc.) and the door panels will also be removed. I decided not to paint the floor of the car since no one ever sees it and it seems like a lot of work to remove the interior, and it'd be more $$$ to paint it. Anyways, I was wondering how much you guys think this would cost at a typical apintshop. Not a Maaco, but your average collision center place or any where else that paints cars. Also, if you guys could give me an estimate on if I were to do all the sanding and prep work and primer myself and then have the paintshop just apint it black. I'd appreciate that too.
Thanks.

Re: Paint job estimate?
Well, just for a very easy comparison... I went to my cousin's collision shop that does awesome work, and got an estimate from them. To replace my bumper, then sand, prime, base coats, clear coats, and stripes was $3320 and "that's not including fixing any dents or rust spots."
Re: Paint job estimate?
I'd say 2000 or less. Just because it shouldn't take that much to do all that except for the prep. Since you are disassembling everything, it will go much easier for labor time on them.
Re: Paint job estimate?
you can get a nice paintjob for for 1500 or so, but if want motor pulled, etc(to where it looks 100% factory paint) normally around 4k or so...

Re: Paint job estimate?
my car is being painted as we speak the same way you want yours painted. sanded to the metal and all of the urthaine parts (bumpers, and fenders) are new. the engine bay was walnut blasted to remove all of the paint and the interrior door jams and about 3" from the edge under the carpet is also being painted . i removed everything myself and did alot of the body work even shaved alot of stuff . the strippng work (walnut blasting the engine bay and sanding the rest to the metal then any additional body work i missed. then the paint 3 paitn coats and 3 clear coats. the total came to almost $5500.00. lucky me its all being paid for by a ins company. now if you want to add in the body kit, hood and new fenders the total come almost to 7500 bucks.
