Magic Marker!

I was at a Wal-Mart last week, looking in the "Automotive" section when I overheard a customer asking the salesperson what to use to remove magic marker from his car. Seems someone wrote all over his car The salesperson was showing him the different types of car wash, so I thought I'd "chime in" to try and help the guy.

Wal-Mart doesn't have much in the way of product, other than the "basic" cleaning products, so I suggested he try rubbing compound as thats the only thing on the shelf I thought might work.

Anyone ever hear of this happening, and have suggestions what might work?

Re: Magic Marker!

I don't think a rubbing compound is the way to go. That is far to abrasive to begin with.

A product like 3M Prep Sol, etc. would be more appropriate.

Re: Magic Marker!

I agree that there are better products out there for just such a problem, but the guy wanted something off the shelf, and rubbing compound was all that they carried.

I suggested he try Pep Boys, Autozone, etc., for something better, but he was anxious I guess

Re: Magic Marker!

WalMart carries 3M Wax and Grease remover near where the auto sandpaper and auto touch up paint is, I am sure that would work...

Ah Ha! I didn't know that. Thanks KevinSS, I'll have to pick some up in case I need it on a detailing job.

Just wait. Magic marker disappears on it's own.

Re: Magic Marker!

if you can get it.. ppg makes some wax and grease remover called acryliclean or DX330.. it would work awesome in the above situation and is also very usefull in removing tar and other debris

Re: Magic Marker!

I found out by accident that dry erase markers will desolve permanent marker stuff. My grand daughter used a permanent marker on her white board. We figured it was ruined. A couple of days later she was using the dry erase markers. Everywhere the two crossed was now eraseable. Very cool.
