Question i need some painting tips....

hey im going to be painting my new fender and bumper for my camaro. Im buying the paint from carquest and im borrowing a spray gun. Any pros out there who can give me some good painting tips?
and good technique ive never done it before. Its probably stupid to attempt it myself but its alot cheaper than getting it done at a body shop..
well if anyone has any tips please post

thanks guys!

Re: i need some painting tips....

who the **** is carquest??? honestly i wouldnt use ANY but DuPont or PPG just remember its all in the prep and take your time dnt try to shoot the paint and 5mins later shoot 3 coats of clear w/o proper dry time ummmmm make sure the gun is CLEAN do a little test shoot b4 you go at it with the car make sure you have a filter in the lines to filter out trash and if possible a filter to filter out water (causes "fish eyes" ) a good little trick to keep trash out of the paint is to wet the ground with water since dust is attracted to moisture dont use newspaper to cover unpainted parts use paper sold at a paint shop any other paper when hit with air can release paper fibers that can get in the paint thats all i have for the moment too drunk to remember the rest ummmmm just really be paitient follow the directions and dont listen to people who have never painted b4 but "have seen" it done b4 if there is already paint on the parts you DO NOT NEED primer-filler just a sealer 2-3 coats of color depending what color you are shooting and NO MORE than 3 moderate coats of clear anymore and you will have life in like 5-10 years when that **** peels off and looks like milk 12hrs after last coat of clear you can then wetsand with 1500-2000 grit wet sand paper then buff i like 3M products for this and then some way and you are set.... and if somone tells you to wait a week b4 you buff and way tell them they are a retard have fun good luck if you have questions IM me on AIM greasemonkey GI

Re: i need some painting tips....

ok here is the deal about buffing and waxing after a paint job. if you wait 6 months to buff your gonna want to whoop that guys *** b/c its gonna be a pain in the *** to buff ever see someone get a car painted and the painter keep the car for 6 months or say come back in 6 months... no so like 12 hrs after painting wetsand buff then wax paint can shrink not alot and most people wont see that and thats where the wax comes into play it will help it from shrinking for the gun your just gonna have to practice and see how close you can get and what speed to move without running the paint you will catch on pretty quick im sure color is easy its the clear that people mess up b/c its clear and you cant really see what you are shooting on your second coat so get alot of lights around and it will help you see better ummm if you are shooting and paint is just flying i mean really zipping out of the gun and just misting turn the pressure down cant off the top of my head tell you the PSI to shoot with maby some other painter on the board will step in and help with that i never looked at the regulator i just shot from what ever pressure looked the best i work from top to bottom and only shoot from side to side as far as my arms will reach dont try to start at the frount bumper and shoot one strait line all the way to the rear bumper unless you are a bad **** thats about it i know it all sounds confusing but its alot easier to explain in person

and no i dont give a rats *** if i didnt use a period to anyone who would like to point it out.........
