I need some help here guys... (Zaino Related)

I have a friend who swears by wax. Thats fine with me, he can swear by whatever the hell he wants. But I told him about Zaino and how its a Polish instead of a Carnuba wax etc etc etc. He says Wax is way better. He then starts talking about how polish is abrassive and how you use polish and THEN you wax it. I told him he is confusing Zaino with polish. I said the polish he is thinkin of is abrassive and takes off old paint (kinda like a rubbing compound) and Zaino is a polymer polish...

He then sent me this link:
http://www.eforecourt.com/carcare2.htm

Can someone help me out with some info and details so I can effectively win this arguement? Thanks

Yup, he's thinking of the old traditional method of polishing then waxing a car, like we all used to do with the multi step carnauba systems like Meguiar's, Mother's etc.... He is assuming that since you called Zaino a "polish", that it's automatically an abrasive paint PREP product, like traditional polishes you apply before waxing.

There are a few things in that link that are like paint needing oils, but most of it is accurate, even though I didn't read all of it.

Here's an article I wrote concering how and why polishing and waxing can be misunderstood, and it directly applies to why he is confused: http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview....hreadID=286774

Zaino is called a polish but really it's a synthetic wax, when Sal made his product he called it a "polish" so it would not be confused as another carnauba wax product.

You and your friends argument is really a moot point, you are both talking about doing the same thing which is applying a coat of wax to the paint to protect it. He is probably using a carnauba wax which is a blend or organic and inorganic substances including carnauba wax (the organic part, most carnauba waxes contain 2 to 4 % actual carnauba content) and the inorganic part which are mineral oils and silicone oils which HAVE to be blended with all carnauba waxes, there is no such thing as 100% carnauba wax as carnauba wax in its natural form is as hard as a piece of wood which of course could not possibly be spread onto the surface of paint.

Also, the VAST majority of carnauba waxes also contain cleaners, both physical cleaners (fine abrasives like aluminum oxide) and non physical cleaners in the way of chemicals like Naphtha and other solvents. Carnauba waxes also contain other kinds of waxes, one being Kaolin wax and another is PARAFFIN wax.

Zaino has NONE of the ingredients I have listed above, it is a all synthetic man made "wax" if you want to call it a wax, it is more properly called a synthetic. It contains no cleaners and no abrasives.

The same argument can be made for motor oils, both lube your engine but dino oil and synthetic oils have different bases.
