I've been asked if I could detail a 93 Mazda 626. Lady owned since it rolled off the showroom floor, the thing is, shes never waxed it since shes owned it!!!

Its only ever been washed, never waxed. The thing is, the colour is like a cream/off white colour. How can I make this look good, and please don't say Zaino. She would be buying stuff at like Crappy Tire, and paying me for my elbow grease.

I was thinking of a step one scratch and swirl paint treatment, then use Meguir's Gold for the finish??

I've *never* used claybar before, mind giving me a very quick guide?

is that what you apply first after you wash?

Wash it with Dawn, they use a clay bar, the clay will smooth the paint and remove all those years of built up and embedded dirt, carbon, etc. Then just use a one step cleaner wax, on such a light color and the owners non caring attitude, I image she will be thrilled with that.

 

I have car wash solvent to use to wash it down, I'll go grab a claybar at Crappy Tire then too.

So after the claybar, can I then apply a good wax? I wouldn't mind putting on a good wax for her....

 

I think I'd wash it again after the clay, in order to remove any residue that might be there.

 

Try the Mother's Three Phase process. I tried it on my kid's Mustang (why sacrifice my Camaros? ) and it turned out great. Phase I is to clean the dead paint, Phase II is the swirl remover, and Phase III is the carnuba wax.

I ended up with a deep shine where the original paint was dull before. (This was on a red car.)

 

Thats just it, this is a beige car, not a car that will show the shine easily like other colours.

From my forum research here I know to buy a Mother's claybar, not Meguire's, not sure what wax to use on this car for after the claying is done....

Now I normally use Armor all or whatever for the interior, is there suthin else i should grab at crappy tire instead of this?

 

I've never been a huge Armorall fan, however the new wipes are extremely easy to use.

I have six cars and I'm the only one that details them. I take my time on my Camaros, but I look for short cuts on the others... the armorall wipes has been one of them.

This what I would do.

Mix bucket of Dawn and wash car with a mitt. I would put some Dupont #7 Polishing Compound on mitt after dunking in bucket and wash car with it rubbing it in with Dawn mixture. Since compound is diluted only abrasive cleansing is taking place so it won't show on metal rubber and glass after these procedures

Then I would wash car with just Dawn mixture.

I would then wax car with abrasive wax like Nu Finish for two coats. One section at a time one coat at a time.

Use some Nu Vinyl on interior. Vaccum under seats including rear(pull it) and trunk.

Use some Eagle 1 Wheel Cleaner on wheels

Use some Turtle Wax (Tire Wetter?) spray for tires and vinyl/rubber trim

Use some Westley's Bleche-White for exhaust pipes

Use Invisible Glass for windows

Use Gunk for engine bay cleaning

Won't last long and not the best stuff for car long term treatments; but, it will look good

Just did it on my wife's white 93 Volvo wagon which was in same shape.

For you flamers, it's only Zaino on the Z!
