How to tell if car is clear coated?
How to tell if car is clear coated?
I was thinking about ordering some zaino but don't know whether to get z-2 for clear coated, or 2-3 for regular paint. Is there a way to tell if my car is clearcoated or not. The problem is that it was repainetd after a factory defect so the paint is not original. Also the rear and front bumpers have been repainted and Im not sure of the paintshop sprayed any clear. There are pictures in my sig and in person you can notice some orange peel if any of that helps. Thanks.
Re: How to tell if car is clear coated?
My Guess is that it has a clear coat, i don't see why they wouldn't put a clear coat on. I think the only cars that don't have a clear coat now adays are the real old ones. If i remember correctly i think the difference is that the clear coat makes it shine since its like a glaze kind of.
Either way if your car didn't have a clear coat where they resprayed it then i think you would have to end up getting both. 1 for the clearcoated section and one for the non clear coat section.

most likely it is clear, only macco and shieb does single stage jobs. you can look close if you have any scratches that will hlep you tell. if it is single it should look like color in it, clear you can almost see sideways into it.

Just order the Z-2, there is a 99% chance that your car has clear everywhere, even if it does not you can use Z-2 on non clear and clear and you can use Z-3 on clear and non clear. Z-2 and Z-3 are the same except that Z-3 contains an extra additive to hinder oxidation that is prone to happen on older single stage paints.....

Get some wet or dry sandpaper and wet sand a spot somewhere that it doesn't show. If no clear coat, the color will show in the part you sand off, if clear coat, it will be whitish.

Easier than that, take some rubbing compound in a small spot and rub it on the paint, if the applicator turns the color of the car, it is NOT clear coated...
