How often?

In the first week of June, I clay barred, polished, then waxed my Firebird for the first time. The results were great. Now it is a month and a half later and I'm going to wax it again tomorrow. However, I was wondering how often the polish and clay bar are needed? Should I do all three every time I wax the car, or what?

Wash weekly
Wax monthly
Clay every 4-6 months
Polish once a year.

You can also use a glaze to fill imperfections and swirls (like Meguiar's #7) as a temporary fix until you polish again.

Re: How often?

I would just keep the car as clean as possible, using a non wax stripping car wash, and just wax. You can put as many coats on as you like as long as you buff off the coatings completely before adding additional coats.

Do not use polishes after your first application, because it will remove wax. I would not use a claybar either after the first time unless you notice particles that are not going away. If this is the case, examine where you are parking the car, your wash and wax routine (wax greatly inhibits particles from sticking) and respond as you feel is needed.

Remove your old wax build up after up to a year (or if you don't see winter seasons, 9-12 months), and start over with the cleaner, polish, and wax.
