Hot glue on paint
Hot glue on paint
I just got a Camaro recently and there's a string of something that looks like hot glue running down part of the door. I tried using Meguiars 9 Swirl Remover but that didn't take it off. I don't have a buffer so anything I get i need to use by hand. Does anyone have any ideas how i can get this off my paint?? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Hot glue on paint
Try polishing compound for clearcoats. Keep working at it until it comes off.
If you have some gas laying around, put some gas on the glue and try and dab it off (most times the gas will dissolve the sticky substance. It is safe for your paint as long as you do not get crazy).
Keep working at it in stages until it is all gone. Kill whoever was responsible for putting that glue on your car

Re: Hot glue on paint
What kind of polishing compound for clear coats should I use? Could I mess up the paint at all while using it? I think I got the glue out of the middle of the run but the edges are still there so I'm worried i'll make the paint uneven if i try to polish it more. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
Re: Hot glue on paint
The polishing compound he's talking about is made by Turtle Wax and is absolute crap. That's why it costs $1.99. It will also introduce scratches of its own (very fine ones) into the finish. Have a mobile detailer come look at it or take it to a shop.
Re: Hot glue on paint
No I was referring to DuPont. They make an excellent polishing compound for clearcoats. You should be able to find it in many popular auto parts stores. Honest, it works well, and it comes in both a liquid and paste.
The paint will be fine. Just add more of the compound and work it in with even strokes. Lighten up on your hand pressure just to be safe. You will have to polish up the area when you are done, so don't worry.
Did you try the gas yet? It won't hurt your clearcoat, but if you don't want to use gas, then use the compound and/or buff paint cleaner.

Re: Hot glue on paint
I'm in Omaha, NE. I'm just gonna take it to a body shop cuz I'm really not the best at working with paint. I think someone who knows how to use a buffer could take it out pretty easily.
Re: Hot glue on paint
i dont think a buffer will work especially on glue if you figure the rotory will generate heat may make the glue liquify and burn it into the paint. i think the solvent cleaner will be best but try the buffer thing any way
Re: Hot glue on paint
Good point. Guess I'll try something like goo-gone first. I'm not 100% sure it's hot glue tho. The Camaro was repainted and it could be a run in the clearcoat. So if that and some other things don't work then I'll take it to a body shop. Thanks for the advise everyone! I haven't had a chance to try much yet cuz I'm short on money but I'll keep you updated how it goes.
