help?

well, i had left my car at home for a while when i was at school, and since it was collecting dust, my mother decided to take it upon herself and wash it. but she couldn't find the car wash, so she ended up using degreaser ... there are like streaks all over it, kinda hard to describe, it looks like if you soaped your car up and just let it sit in the sun and wash it off, and there is residue sorta baked onto the paint. will a claybar take care of this?

Ouch, that hurts. Not like you can get all that pissed at your mom too. She did have good intentions. Maybe she can get you a car cover to make up for it so that wont happen again.

Your mom had good intentions, atleast she didnt do anything truely bad.

Wash it, re-wax it (dish soap removes all wax) put a few coats on, and get a good car cover!

ok... good ****.. i guess i'll get down to doing that tomorrow. i have used dawn before when i've hand detailed it. i guess i'll be clay barring it tomorrow, using a little swirl cutter and then 2-3 coats of nxt i'll post pics when i'm done. thanks for the help.

also, i just got the hood and front bumper cover painted about a week and a half or so ago. should I not claybar/wax/buff those two? it didn't seem like the degreaser had stained the hood/front bumper cover, i guess cause the paint was so new. we use the same kind of degreaser stuff at my job where i wash cars just as sort of a presoak, and it doesn't affect new paint, but used cars it will leave streaking and what not and water spots regardless if you wash it afterwards... kinda stupid ****, i just quit using that crap, as it does absolutely nothing.. it should be used for under the hood only...

Actually, If you just had thoses panals painted, wash the car but dont re-wax the newly painted parts!!!! The paint is still new and claying/ waxing wouldnt be good untill it's 1-2 months old minimum!

Just wash it! It should come clean, you probably dont have any swirls unless your mom used something bad as a sponge or wash mit. (stiff brush)

i didn't wax the hood or front bumper. i know that i have to wait. it's been about 3 weeks since i got it painted. it didn't leave anything on the hood or front bumper, or really, the fenders or door panels. only spots it stained was the roof, quarter panels and spoiler. **** the spoiler though, i'm getting an SS spoiler here pretty soon here anyways.

and there are swirls there from her washing it. she doesn't know any better. there are wash mitts, but the chances are that she didn't rinse it or anything when she washed it, or she might have dropped it on the ground or something, i don't know, i didn't ask her about the specifics. i found someone to buff it though here.. so it's all good. i'll post pics once it's done.

get some light and medium compound. Go over the whole car with med, than the light and follow up with a glaze. You can do the newly painted parts too, just no wax. You should be able to fix anything she did by hand. Most people underestimate what their capable of, btw before i wash my car i hit it with simple green on the lower half of the car. It gets the grease and tar that soap doesnt do so well with.
Before i wax it i than hit it with prep-all to make sure nothing is on the paint.

I'm actually just going to take it to a professional detailer this friday, as he's only charging me $65 for the whole car, and I've seen his work, definitely amazing.. I'm not going to mess with the damaged paint anymore right now, I'd hate to **** it up more. It's not that I don't know what I'm doing, it's just that I know he does, and that he will be able to fix it better than I ever will by hand.. And now my mom knows not to wash my car, so I won't have to probably pay for a detail for a while now. For being 15 years old, the paint is in really great shape though, especially with 145,000 daily driven miles... I will post pics on friday when I get it back. Thanks for the help guys!
