Headlight polishing?

As you can see, they look like crap. I've heard of people using sand paper and then waxing.. what would you guys suggest?

you could use sand paper starting from the 400 600 800 then finish it with 2000 grit,it must be wet sanded
then when your done just use the 3M rubbing compund
thats what I did to my 96 avenger and now the headlights look like new

Holy smokes....Has anyone tried a plastic polish ?????
Its oxidation and can be cleaned up, even with your normal auto polish....I do it with every car I detail.....
