Thumbs up To get a really thin, even coat of Zaino, try.....

...a foam applicator. I never have been able to get a really thin and even coat of Z using Sal's terry applicators. And, I always seem to use too much product when covering the whole car. I think the problem is that the terry/sponge soaks up way too much product causing me to over-apply and over-use Z2/Z5. I've tried wetting his applicators with Z6 and/or water but that never really did the trick for me. So, I've found that using foam may be the way to go with Zaino. It absorbs and saturates more quickly than the cotton allowing more of the product to actually hit the surface of the paint instead of being soaked up into the applicator. And, it seems to distribute Z2 more evenly and allows a dab to go farther. Viking makes a nice foam app and it goes for around $2 if anyone's interested. Just thought I'd share...

Has anyone else experimented with foam and had good or bad results?

Mike, I've had the same problem with Sal's terry applicators absorbing the Z5, and not going on evenly.

I will give your idea a try next weekend after my ZFX arrives.

Thumbs up

I also use the Viking foam applicators with excellent results. These applicators allows for very thin coats. After trying I have never looked back and the Zaino shine just gets better. Seems to use a whole lot less product also.

What color are they? Are they the applicator pads that come in a two pack with the terry cotton on the outside? I am having trouble getting a thin coat also and am looking for a different applicator pad.

No, the ones in the two pack are regular terry applicators, like Sal's just thinner. I couldn't find a pic of the foam app on the net so I made one of my own:

Thanks! Where do you get them? I know wal-mart and autozone around here carry viking products so I will check there. Any problems with them scratching?

I got mine @ AutoZone for about $1.70 a piece. I have not actually done the whole car with one yet, just a large panel for testing. But, I didn't notice any scratches or other negative effects from using them. As long as you keep it clean before every use, there shouldn't be any issues with scratching, imo.

Meguiar's online actually sells foam apps too, I think $1.50 for 3 if I remember correctly. But, theirs are smaller and wear out a little quicker I think.

Whatever works, but I've never had any problems with the Zaino pads, my son also uses them and he only uses about 1/2 oz. of polish per application, he really gets it on thin. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone having a problem with the Zaino pads.

Not so much that there is any thing wrong with them, they are great, but my problem was that I could never get them clean enough and when I would use them again, I think they would scratch the paint from dried zaino that did not get washed out. Since I have been only using each side once and then throwing them away I have not noticed anymore scratches, but it has gotten to be expensive and I was just looking for something a little cheaper. Right now I was using the viking applicator pads, but do not like them as much as the zaino ones, just looking for somehting else to try. The only thing I am concerned about is them scratching because would it not just be like washing your car with one of the yellow foam sponges that everyone says not to use? Thanks for the help.

Not getting the applicators cleaned will do it. I generally will let mine soak in soapy water and then wash them out and then rinse them REAL good. I use the same ones over and over with no problems.
