Fixing damage- need advice from painters...
Hi,
These questions are for those who have some experience painting vehicles or doing some touch-up.
I scuffed the corner of my Jimmy's front bumper on a concrete post yesterday. I was able to wetsand and use standard touch-up to make it far less obvious, but of course I still know its there. The rest of the truck is flawless which is why I'd like to complete the repair correctly, and have a little fun by doing it myself.
I plan to buy a quart of paint from a supplier here in town, as well as some clear coat. I then plan to buy the little compressed air sprayers you can get from Home Depot.
My questions:
1. What all do I really need for this type of repair?
-base color
-clear
-hardener?
-what grit paper for wetsanding?
2. This isn't a very obvious spot on the car which is why I'd like to attempt the repair myself- can I pull it off and have it look great?
3. Is there a how-to online which steps through the process?
I consider myself pretty handy when it comes to detailing and I've had good luck painting various things in my lifetime (my house, mailboxes, models when I was young, etc- I have an eye towards perfection.)
Thanks for your time!
