Alright i got my car repainted in October of 2005 and the body shop said to wait 3 months to wax it. Its obviously been longer than 3 months. I have just never gotten around to it and with this wierd weather its kind of hard to know when to do it without it raining the next day and spoiling all my hard work. Well ive decided that im going to do it within a month or so. I would like to try Zaino for the first time. I useually use Meguires gold glass and its black btw. They put a clearcoat on it and there are some swirl marks on it, the body shop said the first time i wax it, it should come out.

Now my question is what products should i order, how many coats should i put on and what should the time interval be between the coats. Ive got an electric buffer, one of those cheap ones from wal-mart, should i use that or do it by hand. And what type of towels should i use.

Im looking for as much advice as i can get. This was a really expensive paint job and i would really like to show it off this summer.

Waxing a car won't take out any swirls or other defects. An abrasive polish is required for that. There shouldn't be *any* swirls or problems from the body shop...if so, they're responsible for it, IMO.

Your process should go something like this:

Wash
Claybar
Wash/rinse
Polish as necessary to remove defects
Seal

The minimum products you'll need from Zaino are Z2 Pro and ZFX. You might be interested in one of their kits. Their website has very detailed directions for use...follow them and you'll be fine.

Your buffer probably won't offer much help other than saving your arm a little work.

I recommend using *high quality* microfiber towels.

 

another board member recommended a polish called norton liquid ice. my z is 11 years old and black and has apparently never been through a good polish. ive been using the norton along with a porter cable 7424 and it is really coming back to life(removing scratches and all swirls). lots of work though, but wel worth it in the end. with a new paint job, i would guess yours wouldn't be as hard.

 

I agree with ZaneO's comments....another vote for Zaino.

And using the proper towels is just as important. The wrong type can ruin all your work.

Just for clarity, I didn't tell him to use Zaino. He already said he would be using it.

 

If you're really serious about the finish, you need Zaino.

If you just want it to look good, you can just wash it and use any good quality carnauba wax.

You need polishing compound to take out those swirls. If you wax it could turn out much worse.
