exhaust stains on back bumper

What do you guys recommend to get the stains off. I tried using a plain damp towl with a little soap. It did nothing. The car had a big miss in it and was spewing black smoke out the pipes. Now that it is fixed I need to get rid of the residue thats left.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe some rubbing compound or tar remover might work. That would be my best guess at getting it off.

I had the same problem not too long ago and I used these things called Mr. Cleans Magic Eraser that I bought at the grocery store for like $2 bucks. It worked awesome! No sign of any stains left. Just don't rub TOO hard. Rub gently and it should all come off and look good as new.
