Engine washing tips please!

I have washed the engine of my 95 LT1 a few times and everytime after washing it I have a really hard time starting it! I assume it's because the opti is wet. How do you get the engine nice and clean without getting the opti wet??? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks!

Just keep the engine running while you're washing it but make sure it's cold before you spray the degreaser on it so that it doesn't dry on it.

Cover the opti up with a plastic bag.

Could you post a link to a picture of your plastic bag covered opti? I'm sure I (and others) would be interested in seeing this... I really need to clean my engine bay and this technique would be a boon, but I need to see it done in order to duplicate your efforts... Thanks for the info...

I don't have a Z28 anymore... and I never took pics of my opti with a plastic bag over it. My advice to you would be: first of all make sure you know what your opti is (ask around in LT1 tech, they probably have some pics or diagrams), and then just use a couple of hefty sack-type bags and/or a bunch of seran wrap to seal it off from water.

Same thing would go for your CAI filter, and if you're really worried about it; your starter, alternator, and battery as well.

I don't think asking about how to cover the opti is an off the wall question that you guys seem to be making it out to be. I for one have found it next to impossible to accomplish this task from above without getting flat out pissed off and saying f-it.

However, getting at it from under the car is the way to go about it. I agree with a previous post to just leave your car running and do your damndest to avoid direct water contact with the opti.
