Detail: Black C5

I headed to Dallas this past weekend and detailed a friend's C5 while I was there. It had some moderate swirling he wanted taken care of and requested that I "Zaino it." This car had more orange peel than any other GM vehicle I've done.

Process:

Wash with Zaino Z7
Clay
Poorboy's SSR 2.5 via light cutting pad and PC at 6
Menzerna PO106FF via polishing pad and PC at 5
Klasse AIO via polishing pad and PC at 5
Zaino Z5 x 2
Zaino Z8
Wolfgang tire gel on tires
Eagle One Wet in wells
Luster Pad to polish tips

Haven't tried the Z8, so far i have on coat 2 coats of Z5 and on coat of Z2 with a coat of Z6 gloss enhancer. Is the Z8 that much better?

Re: Detail: Black C5

IMO, Z8 is pretty darn good stuff! I was at a car show recently, and about 12 to 15 of us "caravaned" to the show. Out of the 12 to 15, I'd say 10 guys were using Z8 to prep their cars. It really is good stuff.

Thanks for the compliments!

The true depth, shine, and color come from proper prep work (ie. the polishing steps). Waxes and sealants are just "icing on the cake" after correctly prepping.

Did you apply the waxes by hand or use an orbital/rotary tool?

Re: Detail: Black C5

the orange peel could be a sign of repainting. i used to detail cars for meguiars and it was always easy to spot.

Most every GM vehicle I've detailed has at least a fair amount of orange peel. There were no signs of a repaint.

ya i agree with the gm cars having the orange peel. but since you mentioned it, i thought it was a little more than normal.

Uneven clearcoat application causes the finish to resemble the peel of an orange.
