Costco Towels Seem to Have Improved

I bought a 40-pack bundle of cotton terry towels from Costco the other day and after giving them their initial wash, I was a bit surprised at how soft and plush they were. I tried rubbing them on a CD and they passed with flying colors. I then pulled out one of the loops/threads, dampened it and put it over a flame to test for any polyester content. None!

I remember buying these same towels from Costco almost two years ago and remember them feeling like sandpaper with zero plushness, but now, they seem to have improved.

I bought these towels to use for my grunge work, like my rims, wheel wells, etc. However, now I'm starting to think that maybe they're OK for my paint...as long as I keep the folded edges away from the paint. It almost seems like a waste to use these towels on my rims, even though they only cost about $14 dollars for a pack of 40.

What do you think? Should I even try them out or don't take any chances and use them only for my dirty areas.

Exclamation

I would personally never use those packaged rags/towels on my cars. Does it say where they are made? I'm guessing Pakistan, India, China, etc.... Even some that say made in USA are not 100% true cotton. I use high quality bath towels on my finish, namely POLO and Noble Choice, both 100% cotton and USA made. When I was shopping recently for more NC towels, I noticed they had an "upgrade" towel under the same brand called Noble Excellence. They were definitely ultra soft and pure white, but I was really disappointed to find that their "premium" towels are made in India, whereas the NC are made in the US from California grown cotton. So, be wary, not everything is as it seems.

I do use those type of towels (packaged) for wheels and the other non-painted areas that don't show swirls etc... They are soft, but no way would I use them on my paint. Becasue they will cause marring without a doubt, and that's unacceptabe IMO.

Do yourself and your car a favor and buy at least a couple of high quality bath towels, Charisma, Polo, etc....your car will thank you!
