clear coat repair?

I got an idea to repair a couple of spots where the clear coat has pealed off b4 they become to much of a problem and make my car look like crap, but I wanted to know if you all thought it would work first.

First I planed on using a very fine wet sand paper to smooth out the edges where the clear coat has pealed.
2nd tape/news paper off a large aria around the spot so I dont get over spray on the good paint
3rd spray a couple of coats of Dupi-Color clear coat on the damaged aria evenly as possable.

I know it wont look perfect, but do you all think it would help prevent further pealing from the same spot, and keep my paint from looking like crap?

A body shop would do the best job. If it isnt on one of the metal parts on the car, i would just wax over it untill you can have a body shop do it. Thats just my opinion.
