cleaning engine..

i was wondering.. how do you guys usually go about cleaning a 3.8 v6 like mine, ive cleaned the valve covers up pretty well with some degreaser and a scotch bright pad from work but it just doesnt seem to work for the textured stuff.. such as the engine block and the intake manifold, how can i get those looking just as great as my valve cover!?

Re: cleaning engine..

I've been told to spray some simple green on, let it soak in for a bit then hose it off. Just don't concentrate on the electronics and you'll be ok. Haven't finished putting my car back together yet, so I haven't tried it.

Re: cleaning engine..

Go down to the good ol' Napa in Mahomet and get yourself some engine cleaner/degreaser. Autozone or Peoples Performance Automotive has similar products as well. You just spray it on (minding the electronics) and rinse it off. My old 3.4 got flooded and I had tons of debris and mud everywhere. This stuff worked great, and it looked like I had it detailed. I did use a green pad to get some residual stuff off, but it was the last stuff I ever bought to clean it up. It looked better than when I first bought it. I actually still have some left over in my folks garage in Mahomet if u want.

Simple green is some good natural environmentally friendly cleaner that works on anything grease and you can get it pretty much anywhere...I think IGA even has a bottle you could get by w/. Hope this helps you out!

Re: cleaning engine..

Yep, I know...as soon as I saw the custom intake and the 3.8 from Mahomet, I knew it had to be you. Your car is super clean looking...good work. But yeah like I said, that engine cleaner works wonders. If you ever have any Q's w/ your car, I have taken apart the 4th gen's almost from the ground up. I did a lot of stuff w/ my 3.4 too, but if you ever need help, hit me up because I probably have an easier way for you to do it! Take er easy
