Absolutely, positively, DO NOT use the spray on cleaner, those spray on hose off things are acid based and I do not care if the bottle says wheel safe or something like that. We go thru this about once per month on this board of someone who uses that spray on cleaner stuff and forever stains and clouds their wheels.

Best bet: only wash them by hand using car wash and a rag or sponge, only use the chrome polish (because it is an abrasive and will cause tiny scratches) if the wheel has a problem with shine or gloss, other than that wash with car wash and apply whatever kind of wax or polish you use on the rest of your paint.

go to Home Depot or Menard's and ask for MAAS metal cleaner/polisher. Used it on my buddies TA rims, dad's Caddy Rims, mom's 3.2TL rims, all three had tarnish and oxidation, and all three had an irrestible shine afterwards.

best one i've found.

After seeing my roommate's 17" ZR 1's get completely ruined from using an expensive chrome cleaner.....
I ONLY USE SOAP AND WATER TO CLEAN MINE NOW!
And after there clean, I use Mother's Chrome Polish and they come out clean as hell everytime!
Good luck

I made the mistake of using Eagle A to Z aluminum cleaner on my rims once. Never again! They were all cloudy and nasty looking for a month or so afterwards. From now on its just car soap and water followed up by Zaino.

What about for my polished TT II's? Is Windex safe or a big no-no?

I used some Eagle One "safe for chrome" on my wheels, and it ate through it in some places. Pissed me off. I thought about contacting the manufacturer about the damage done, but theres no way I can prove the cleaner caused it and I doubt they would do anything to help me fix my wheels anyway. Peace

I use my mom's dish soap.
They take off the grease and junk really well and its cheap.
I'm thinking about using it to wash my whole car. Anyone know if this is a bad idea?

Exclamation NO!!!

You don't want to use dish soap on the exterior paint just for cleaning. These soaps are a heavy alkaline and can weaken the paint over time. Also, it will completely strip any and all wax you may have on the finish, leaving it completely unprotected and prone to oxidation and evvironmental damage. Always use a car wash solution as they are usually closer to netural pH than dish soap. If you're looking for a cheap local alternative, I'm really liking DuraGloss car wash for $3 a bottle! It's easily the best over the counter wash I've ever used. Cleans well, very slick, smell good, and leaves a nice shine by itself. I get mine at CarQuest....
