clay?!!

So I tried out clay for the first time on my car and WOW it's amazing! My T/A has great paint except that the back bumper is kind of rough and there are random tiny spots all over the horizontals where it looks like it got some acid rain...you can't feel it with your fingernail but at each spot the clearcoat looks discolored. Anyways, tried the clay and not only are the spots gone but it's as smooth as a baby's ***! Only bad part is that it takes forever to do large areas!! Is there any downside to using clay?

Just this weekend, I used clay for the second time, I used the mothres kit on my Firebird, and a Clay Magic on my dad's truck. I love the mothers, but the Clay Magic didnt impress me much. I havent heard anything about the downsides of the clay, unless a rock got stuck in there and schatched the shiot out of your paint

You're right...I should've posted in the show and shine instead of care and maintenance. Just thought I would share my delight. I used the Mother's clay bar kit...haven't tried any others.

It's simply a bar of clay (like play-doh) and you rub it against the paint making sure that the surface is very wet and even though it feels like it's just sliding around on the paint, it actually takes off all impurities. It works awesome and will make the paint glass-smooth. It just takes a while to do large areas and you must keep spraying to ensure the surface stays wet.

Any auto parts store should have it. Mother's, Clay Magic and Zaino are the best. Meguiar's just doesn't work very well. I threw the Meguiar's clay away.

hey darthrug

it should get rid of those "speckles" make sure that you wash your car or whatever part after using it to make sure that the spray is completely removed. This also strips whatever polish/wax that you have applied, so you must reapply that also. It is a big job, but it pays in the long run.
