The chrome on the inside of my rims is flaking/pitting???

As in the subject, is there any way to stop the pitting and flaking from the inside of the rims. I've used Meguires wheel cleaner on them, is that to harsh for the inside? I take the rims off 2-3 times a year to clean off brake dust and tar on the inside...spray on rim cleaner and then polish before I put them back on. Is there anyway to prevent them from getting worse? Thanks.

Not sure of any way to stop it. I think once it begins it keeps going.

The only way to fix it is to get them rechromed.
