Black paint in need of help

I just purchased a lexus RX300 and the original owner must have thought the automatic car wash was a good thing, and that the wax option actually helped the paint, because this black paint is a mess. It is a 2001, and has swirl marks and tons of minor scratches.. it had absolutely no wax at all on the surface either. I tried to just use a one step wax, and it worked well until of course it started to wear, and the scratches showed again big time.. Some other cratches were still noticeable.

I was wondering what would be a real good polish that would remove the swirls and scratches by hand since I can't afford a buffer at the moment. Sucks, because reading the posts here, the PC sounds like something I could use right now.

But anyway after I polish, I need to buy a Zaino kit, since this is what I want to use for the wax. Please PM me if you know good prices. I am guessing I need the Zaino wax for swirl marks..

I am going to take some pics of the paint and see what you guys might recommend for helpig the paint. I will post tommorow the pics.

Thanks
Kevin

You can buy the Porter Cable buffer model 7336 at Lowes for 99.99 or you could get cheay unit at WalMart for 25 bucks, even the 25 buck one would be better than none. I use 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009. If it is really bad you can start with 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound and then step down to the 39009 and then use the Zaino Z-5 Show Car Polish.

Does this swirl remover have much negative long term effect on the car? Like do you want to use it minimally to avoid any excess abrasion?

Swirl Removers are very mild, you do not have to worry about removing too much clear coat.

some pics would really help for advice....defianetly buy a PC it will be one of the best inventions for detailing you can buy....and dont worry about burning thru the paint with a PC, its very rare to do and you would have to try to do it, burning is typically reserved for a rotary....btw, zaino has some good stuff (i love z2) but they are not the be all end all detailing products, there is better stuff out there and probably not as expensive
