Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
Got my new wheels bolted on last friday.

What is the best method for cleaning and shining up my new babies?
I was thinking of course rinsing them with lots of water first, cleaning them with soap and water, then what kind of polish? Also, I see American Racing sells a "wheel wax" which would obviously be the last step. I'd like to try that stuff out.
Correct me? Post up your methods.

Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
First, the wheels look great on your car.
Second, I'd 2nd what 'blue89bird' says; I'd try 'Mothers'. I was looking at similar rims for the SS, but backed out as I'm **** about the cars appearance, and I was told they'd require lots of polishing to shine they way I'd want them to.

If they are clearcoated, then I highly recommend Blue Magic Wheel Polish. They are specially formulated for factory coated wheels, but will also work on a variety of polished aluminum and chrome surfaces.
Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish works good. Take it from someone who details cars with these rims.....for a quick job, just polish the spokes and the lip. If you want the whole thing.....remove the wheel. Trust me your fingers will thank you. Without the lugs in the way you can get in the tight spaces in the center without killing your fingers.
Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
Thanks guys for the help and the compliment.
Someone told me to use Windex to clean them in between polishes? Maybe it's just me but I'm thinking that's a no-no on polished aluminum. Okay for chrome, but not these... Right?
Yeah I definitely had that idea... Whenever I go to a show or cruise and I want a complete awesome job, I'll take the wheels off the car.

Try this product:
www.mrbuffer.com
It really works. Not much rubbing or elbow grease needed.
Good luck

From a guy who used to work for a wheel maker....starts with F, ends with "ikse" ....WENOL is the simple greatest product for cleaning unclearcoated, bare polished aluminum wheels. There's the red and the blue....buy both and use accordingly. It's pretty cheap, too.
If they're clearcoated, simple green to keep clean, and then your favorite wax to keep shiny.

Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
I just got some aluminum wheels as well a few weeks ago. After some research, a lot of people recommended Mother's Billet Aluminum Polish, it's a step up (both in quality and price) from the standard Mother's Aluminum Polish. As is any polish, it's not fun to do, but it definitely got the job done.
Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
I use soap and water to clean them when they're dirty.
Then I use virtually any kind of aluminum polish whenever it's needed. They all seem pretty much the same to me, but then again I never let them get very dirty.
This is after 4 years of abuse.
[I needed an alignment in the front... and the rears were just fun.]

That has to be toe in, like, 300 degrees of it.
haha I'm glad to hear about how you take care of yours, because you have my wheels and they always look good.
Thanks for the suggestions everybody.
Re: Best procedure for cleaning polished aluminum wheels?
I've got polished aluminum boyd smoothie 2's on my 69. Mother's makes a polisher that goes right onto your cordless drill. I did the spokes and middle with it. Its called the powerball. Def. worth the twenty bucks in time and pain
