Not typical to ask for pictures of the ugly side of our cars, but I am curious to see if anyone has any pics of their rusted F-body. If you do, please post them up so I can see them. I am not doing this to make fun, its more like watching a train wreck. Even though it's a horrible thing, you can't keep your eyes off it.

 

If I would have known there was a demand for rusty f-body pictures, I would have taken pictures of my third gen before getting rid of it or pictures of a 2nd-gen Camaro project car that I almost bought a couple of months ago. I'm happy to report though that my 4th gen is rust free with the exception of some of the suspension parts... but most of them have already been replaced.

 

Me too... doesn't the 4th gen camaros have plastic and galvanized steel panals?

 

Although they have made it more difficult for the 4th Gens to rust, there are still parts that can. I personally have seen some rust on some hoods, and some back quarter panels.

Anyone have any pics though?

 

this picture mailed me the new owner from my 4th gen Firebird (1997). I sold him the car two years ago with only 18k on the odo.

I was at the gm dealer a few weeks ago and saw a 95 ta with unbelievable rust on it. The floor was so rusted in the rear hatch you could see the spare tire.In general the whole under body was beyond repair.Location montreal calcium city of canada.

 

Rust is a predator, in that even dual sided galvanized steel can rust if the coating gets chipped or scraped off. Your best bet is to have the underside of the car sprayed with rubberized undercoating (which is my normal practice right after buying a new car).

If you see rust spots already developing, then you probably should apply some por-15 on them. That is a great product for containing rust.

 

Does anyone have any rust pics or at least seen rust on the body panels of a 4th Gen F-body?

 

^ I noticed a small spec of Rust on my 4th gen.. She startign slow. There's a small spec under the hood where the stock batt puked on the radiator support.. My 85 had ROT. baaaad under the driver's door.

I'll go grab a pic... Ein Minuten... It IS only a spec, but still. Rust is like cancer... That's all I've found on the EXT. Some small spots under car... no pics, tho. and it's raining out. oh, on the rar corner of my driver's side door 'jam' I guess.

 

I have this little spot on the "B" pillar of my door too...... it's from the rubber seal under the door. The edge of this rubber hits the corner of the holm/pillar if I close the door.....
It's on both sides!
