97 convertible-that little black triangle?

Hope this is the right forum...has anyone tried refinishing that little black triangle piece on the convertible. It's right behind the window. Seems to be made of aluminum or some sort of pot metal. It's glossy black and the one on my drivers side has some chipping/flaking corrosion looking sort of problems. I wondered if it could be removed and stripped or sanded and then repainted?
Appreciate any input!
Jeff

It can be removed, not sure how painful it is. You could try sanding and masking and painting on the car. You can also get decals on ebay and other sites to cover it up.
