The 561's are usually the LEAST desirable castings and ANY other LT1 casting is considered a better head to fully port.

I just happen to have a guy with one 561 casting and he needs another one so he can complete his set and get them ported.

The 374 catsings "seem" to be the thickest that I have seem as long as there is not much core shift in them.

I am still looking for 1 561 casting for him though.

Lloyd

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what are the differences between castings? The only difference I know of are the cast iron ones from the B-bodies, and the aluminum ones from the F and Y bodies. I'm always looking for new info

The 561's are a lil better in stock form and flow almost 10 cfm more than the other castings. They are thinner though and do not offer quite as much when fully ported and larger valves are used.

With stock valves, they are fine.

The 561's came on the 97 models and I think on some late 96's as well.

All of the other casting #'s are basically the same.

The cast iron heads are obviously different but this is just comparing the aluminum heads.
