Forged > Cast

Saving a couple hundred bucks to have the cast ones be the limiting factor then paying to have them reworked so you can break them later .

Forged pistons and cast rods Had he used forged rods I would have bought this motor.....

Re: "LT1 355 Short Block"

350 - The original LT1 came with regular forged 350 rods, that were shot peened for localized hardness under the head of the bolt and nut. Powdered metal rods were phased in for the Corvette around 1994 and used in all of the LT1 engines by 1995. GM made the change because the powdered metal rods were cheaper to make and were much stronger than the GM high performance "pink" rods. In fact, they are supposed to be good for up to 450 hp. They are machined at the parting line so they can be reconditioned.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with factory rods especially when compared to others. But I just hate for the rods to be the limiting factor. With a mild build like this couple hundred more and it would have been the crank. I'm not sure what the limit of the factory crank is but I have heard of people pushing 500hp+ with no problems as long as they don't spin it too high.

People usually break the factory rods........Just saying......

so what's your poin't there good or bad rods? You make it seem that just becuase LT1's engines came out with PM rods that there fubar..If you do a search in the this fourm and search PM rods. You won't find a negative on the factory PM rod and many people that use them on there builds with no issue....these have been resized with arp hardware..there are a lot of people that prefer to spend the money on the PM rod than go to a scat or eagle rod.. Herron performance 11:8's stock 130K shortblock and the guess what rods his car had Look at the AI webstite and see how many LT1's are in the low 11's on stock shorblocks with PM rods and Mildly built 355's with the PM rod..don't sell the PM rod short of it's potential. do a search first. Did you break a rod on your LT1? Again ive never seen or heard of anyone break the pm rod..
A short vid of Bolo running his stock LT1 bottom end with guess what rods PM and solid roller..so don't tell me that the PM rod can't handle the Rpms or power...his car ran an 11.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVoh7sKxt1g
I'm just giving everyone proof that the PM rod can handle abuse..don't sell it short..

Re: "LT1 355 Short Block"

Pat Gish and The Great Mike Harris would also agree stock rods with ARP bolts will hold just fine in NA applications. Gish is running low 11s in a full weight Impala SS with a "stock" 350 bottom end.

Sweet motor. This is exactly what I'm going to do WHEN mine blows.

Re: "LT1 355 Short Block"

It's a good motor for the asking price. I wouldn't worry much about stock rods. The limiting factor on stock rods are fasteners and they were upgraded. And I can assure you this is a great and honest seller!
