Installing A4... did I do it right?
EDIT: Just noticed this is in the for sale forum. Sorry guys....
This is my first A4 install, so I'm wondering if I did this right....
I installed the TQ converter in the tranny and this is where I am not certain if I did it right. Should it only go in one way or it doesn't matter? Anyway, I put it in, then I raised the tranny to the engine level and started the bellhousing bolts. Then, I turned the crank until I could see one of the holes on the flexplate, then I turned the TQ converter until I found a hole on it too. I started one bolt, then turned the crank again and did the same with the other 2. Then I tightened each of the 3 flexplate bolts and then I tightened the bellhousing bolts. Did I do this right?
Thanks!

I dont think there is a wrong way to do it
Ive put three in my car an have always tightened the bell-housing bolts frist then the converter bolts, but as long as you dont pull the converter out too far you'll be fine.
just always remember to put lock- tite on the converter bolts; i learned the hard way
also do you have much experience messing with the TV cable ajustment ?

I always tighten the bellhousing up first, then you can check to make sure the converter has enough play in it.Otherwise it could be binding in the pump..
I personally "just to be 100%" would go unbolt the 3 T/C bolts and make sure you have 1/16"-1/4" play between the converter and the flexplate..You should be able to move the converter in and out that little bit"against and away from the flexplate"..Iff it has this clearance,Then pull it to the flexplate and tighten them back up...
If it's tight/bound against the flexplate when you pull the T/C bolts out then it means the converter isn't seated all the way in the pump"the converter should go in 3 steps kinda, when fully seated it will be about and inch inside the bellhousing"..You will have to pull the bellhousing bolts back out and get the converter seated to where you have the 1/16"-1/4" play as above..
If it is bound up then there is a good chance it has messed up the pump..
I'm sure it's all good..But check it just to be sure..

I did it right then. I was wondering why it was so far away in. I had to pull it closer to the flexplate about half an inch or more. And yes, I do remember going through all 3 steps you're mentioning. I also changed the front and rear seals so I should be good then.
Thanks.

Thanks.

PS. I did not use locktite.
I'll go to the store tomorrow and fix this while the engine is still out.

No, no experience with adjusting the TV cable. All I did is replaced the front and rear tranny seals, the filter and the pan gasket. Do I need to readjust the cable?

:disclaimer: This is not nessecarily the right way to do it, but a way i found that works for me
From my experience i always start at back and let up tension as i go
There is a black botton on the top push it in and pull back on the cable till it bottoms out then take it for a spin
it should hold gear for a long time there and shift late
now release tension on the cable till the driving maners suit your liking
your part throttel shifting and shift speed is under total control of the tv
