Houston People

I've got a new job starting up in Houston (meaning my company is doing a construction project). I need to know some local-ism's from you guys.

My project is located on the west side of town. I-59 and Hillcrott Avenue around Westpark Drive.

I found the following area-codes for phone numbers: 713, 281 & 832. I'm assuming these are the "city" area codes. Then there is the 409. That must be the "metro" area code. THEN, there is the 979 & 936 area codes... Am I right here???

My main question is this - do people from the 979 & 936 area codes drive into Houston to do work?? I have to find some good subcontractors to do work and I don't want to call ten-million people if I don't have to. If I could "narrow out" the 979 & 936 then that would help. If I need to call them, I will - I just don't know if I should!!

ALSO, do you guys know anyone who works for a General Contractor (commercial construction) out in the Houston Area? I'd love to talk with them if possible...

although this seems to be the wrong forum for that, i am from houston.

713 and 281 are the area codes for houses and businesses here in southeast houston for sure. also around other parts of houston. my cell phone is also a 713.

832 was prodominately used for cell phones in houston, but i have seen some businesses, such as walmart, using them now, along with house phones. maybe due to the increase in houses in the area.

409 is the area code a little ways from here, i forgot exactly where, but the drive shouldn't be too long. maybe 30 minutes or so.

my cousin lives in a whole nother city about an hour and a half away and his area code is 979, its not exactly a houston area code.

i'm pretty sure if you google "houston area codes" or "713/281/979 area code" ect you'll find what you're looking for. just try to mix and match those around.

so, 713/281/832 would be my best bet for places in houston

hope that helps
