F/S 95 T/A 83,000 miles, needs motor work

For Sale:

1995 Trans Am
Red Exterior
Gray Interior
LT1
Automatic
T-tops
Traction Control
CD Player
83,XXX Miles
2nd Owner

We bought this car when it had 67,000 miles on it from the original owner about a year ago. The car is totally stock right down to the original floormats. About 1 1/2 months ago driving it on the highway it overheated and now has anti-freeze in the oil pan. It has an intermittent idiot light problem in the gauge cluster, that the low coolant, ABS lights would come on intermittently. We were told by the dealership they were malfunctioning and the car overheated catching us offguard. We don't know the extent of the damage and what it might be. We are selling the car as is, needing motor work. Pictures of the car can be seen at:

http://community.webshots.com/album/132250682pVVIIZ

As you can see the car is in excellent condition on the exterior and interior, very straight, clean car, and has always been adult driven. Asking $5500 or best offer as is. Call me at 816-914-2072, or e-mail at 70ss496@charter.net. Thanks

Do the T tops leak? How soon do you have to sell it? Maybe we could come up with a more reasonable price. Have you had any mechanics look at it yet?

Whats a reasonable price?? It's my dad's car you will have to talk to him about the price and details. Call him at 816-914-2072. If he doesn't answer leave a name and number and he can call you back.

Thanks,

Matt

doubtful, motor needs to be rebuilt...And that means at least a Gnote in work alone..Plus u should replace the opti while ur in there bc of the mileage...thats another 400 bones...Plus u still have to fix the original over heating problem.

Im simply trying to get a better feel for what is wrong with the car. As far as what its worth, being that the engine problem has not been properly diagnosed it woluld be difficult to appraise it accuratly. I asked a tangible question. A positive response would likely be more suitable, considering the circumstances.

The car would go for 5-6k easy if running. I would imagine a garage mechanic like myself would be buying the car. Only a dumass would buy the car and take it to a shop to have it repaired. The car seems very clean and with it being unmolested it is worth every bit of 3500 as is. I could see no more than 2k going into this car and that would be a with a new engine going in. Prolly take me 500 to get it running perfect. I've done it many times. Bearings, gaskets, waterpump, radiator, hoses, etc....opti does not need replaced if it was working fine to begin with. No need to waste money when it's not needed. Sure it would be nice to replace everything but it's not necessary. Cory

I figured the car was worth more when it was done, I sold my other T/A a little over a year ago with about the same miles on it for 11,000. Correct me if I'm wrong, I was thinking the car was worth about 7500-8500 when done, that's why it's priced where it was. On NADA the high side still says $9300! I'm not dumb enough to believe you can always go by that however, it's usually given a pretty good ball park.We believe it to be just the head gasket is blown, however we cannot guarantee that. I don't see why you think it needs a total rebuild instead of just putting a set of head gaskets on it. You can start it up and it will run fine for a little bit, then it will start burning coolant and smoking white smoke, if that tells you anything. It's my dad's car and I'm at college and we have to many other projects going on to tackle it right now, plus never doing one it's kind of a intimidating job! It's a job for somebody who is familiar with these cars and has pulled heads and or motors out of them before. I honestly don't believe your looking at thousands of dollars to get it fixed. We figured somebody can put head gaskets on it and have a heck of a nice low milelage car for the money, like I said though we are listening to the best offer. If anybody is seriously interested in the car they need to talk to my dad about it over the phone. I just put this ad up here to help him out. The car hasn't been run for very long how it is, we put it on our trailer right away and hauled it home. Thanks for the input on it, I really appreciate it!

Thanks, Matt

Sorry I forgot to respond to this post, as far as I know they don't leak, I've only driven the car once or twice so I couldn't honestly tell you. Before we had it, it was always garaged however. You guys really need to talk to my dad you can probably get a hold of him tomorrow at 816-914-2072. Sorry I don't know a whole lot of answers! I would really like to see somebody fix this car, it is a super nice driving car and just needs somebody that has worked on these before.

Thanks for the interest,

Matt

Welllll, if your so smart, youd know that you car put a cap and rotor kit in an opti, if its working properly, theres no need to replace the whole thing. Take a look in an autotrader and see what theyre going for. I think 3500 to 4000 would be a good price. Chances are, all it needs is a head gasket depending on how hot it got. These cars are getting old and its hard to find a low milage un touched one. Try finding a mint 5.0 lately? TTT for ya, good luck sellin.

Why would u want a 5.0?I know u can put a cap n rotor on...But the opti itself is wat goes bad...And unless its acting up theres no way you can tell when....
